UCC Wrestlers Qualify For SWOSSAA

The UCC Lancers wrestling team, Chatham-Kent’s only high school wrestling club, competed at the LSSAA regional championships held at St. Patrick’s school in Sarnia this past week.

UCC brought 14 competitors to the tournament and 10 finished in the top 6.

First place finishes were had by Aidan Taylor, Boys 72 kg, and Jillian Toulouse, girls 67.5 kg. Second place was earned by Mitch Hart boys 130 kg, while Floriti Avina and Athena Charbonneau took third and fourth place in the Girls 54kg respectively.

Chase Mason, boys 64kg, and Justen Brooksbank, boys 95kg, both finished fourth, while Hugo Avina, boys 67.5kg, and Amber Lumley, girls 51kg, both earned fifth place finishes.

In the team divisions, the UCC Lancers girls finished third overall, while the boys placed fifth out of the seven competing schools.

The UCC wrestlers will continue to train for SWOSSAA this Thursday, February 20, to be held in Sarnia at St. Clair Secondary School.
