After a week of voting, Chatham’s Joseph Raaymakers has been selected as CKSN’s Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month for February 2014.

A goaltender for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team, Raaymakers had a .942 save percentage in seven games in February, lifting the Cyclones over the Huron-Perth Lakers in the second round of the Alliance Hockey playoffs, and falling just short of the Alliance final after being eliminated by the Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

The grade 10 student at Ecole Secondaire de Pain Court is considered one of Ontario’s top OHL draft eligible goaltenders for the upcoming April 5 draft, and showed why he is so highly touted in February.

Collecting 35.65% of the nearly 800 votes in this month’s Athlete of the Month voting, Raaymakers edged out runner-up Laura Wiersma of the Chatham Christian Flames, who had roughly 25% of the vote, and UCC Lancers and Chatham Outlaws forward Maddy Lalonde, who was third in voting with close to 14% of the vote.

Averaging over 40 shots per game against in February, Raaymakers was a difference maker in the net for the Minor Midget Chatham-Kent Cyclones, earning him CKSN’s Athlete of the Month honours.

January – Winner: Katreena Whiteye – Runner Up: Jared Hansen
