Chiefs Blast Drayton, Even OMHA Final
The Defenders came to Ridgetown with a 3-1 point lead, hoping to take a strangle hold on the series, but the Chiefs had other plans and came out flying scoring first and often, en route to a 7-2 win.
Derrick Van Every opened the scoring at the ten minute mark of the first period, with Kurt Beecroft and Matt Clark chipping in with the assists. Brandan Joyce played another solid game between the pipes for the Chiefs, stopping two breakaways in the first period.
In the second period, Van Every again found the back of the net for the Chiefs, with Brandon Falconder assisting. Matt Clark and Robert Towsley also scored in the second period, with Van Every and Falconer each picking up assists.
The Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs blew the game wide open in third. Josh Pickering opened the scoring in the third with Alex Gardiner and Matt Fleury chipping in with the helpers. Matt Clark scored again with Brandon Wegryzn and Van Every getting the assists at the 4 minute mark of the third. Nate Kelly finished up the scoring with Robert Towsley and Van Every getting the assists.
Van Every, a former Dresden Jr. Kings forward, finished the game with 5 points, on 2 goals and 3 assists to lead the Chiefs.
With the series tied 3-3, both teams will look to look to move to the verge of a championship March 28, when the Chiefs travel to Drayton March 28. Ridgetown-Blenheim will host the Defenders the following night, March 29 at 7pm with the OMHA title on the line.
