The OHL playoffs opened over the weekend with several local players involved in games. Thamesville’s Dane Fox had a heroic first weekend, scoring the deciding goals in each of his Erie Otters first two playoff games.

Friday, Erie beat Saginaw 4-3 to open the postseason. Dane Fox scored the game winner with less than two minutes to go in the game on the powerplay. Fox finished with two points in the game, as he also assisted on a Connor Brown goal earlier in the game.

Saturday, Fox again scored the game winner for Erie, this time in overtime of a 4-3 victory, to give Erie a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series. Fox also scored in the second period of the game, finishing the opening weekend of the OHL playoffs with 3 goals and 1 assist in 2 games.

Blenheim’s Kyle Hope and the Owen Sound Attack edged the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5-4 in game one of their Western Conference series Friday. The Greyhounds feature former Chatham Maroons sniper Patrick Watling.

Watling had two assists in game two, helping the Soo Greyhounds pound the Owen Sound Attack 7-3 to even the series.

Erie and Saginaw will play game three on Monday, March 24. Owen Sound and Sault Ste. Marie also play game three on Monday.
