Through Daniel’s Lens: Ruckpile (April 22nd 2009)
For my inaugural post for the Chatham-Kent Sports Network, I am diving deep into my archives to a sunny spring day in 2009.
The place was UCC Field at Ursuline College here in Chatham. The lady Lancers rugby team was taking on the CKSS Golden Hawks in an exciting home field exhibition game. By the time the second half started, things were not looking so good for the Lancers and by the time it was all said and done, sadly the Lancers couldn’t beat the powerful offence of the CKSS Golden Hawks losing to them.
Now since it was back in 2009 I don’t remember the final scores of the game but if you were there you will remember it well. It was a unique experience for me because it was my first real exposure to a rugby game and to see the action the way it played out reminded me very much of football. I learned in later years it has a lot of play elements that are similar to football including coin toss and tackle. It was something I will never forget that is for sure.
