After a week of voting, Ridgetown’s Derrick Van Every has been selected as CKSN’s Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month for March 2014.

Van Every, scored multiple points in almost every game he played for the Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs Juvenile team, leading them to an OMHA title in March.

After scoring a goal and an assist in the series opener, Van Every scored 5 points in a series tying game, which sparked the Chiefs to win the remainder of the series in straight games.

In the deciding game on March 29 in front of a packed house in Ridgetown, Van Every had his best game of the series, scoring four goals to lift the Chiefs to an OMHA Juvenile title.

Van Every served as an assistant captain for the Chiefs this season.

Runner-Up: Wallaceburg Brady Pataki was a close second in the voting after leading his Chatham-Kent Cyclones to the semi-finals at the OHL Cup. Pataki’s hard work paid off in early April as he was selected in the OHL Draft by Sudbury. He received close to 18% of the vote. In third was Chatham-Kent basketball player Emily Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick, who plays for the Chatham-Kent Wildcats took just over 16% of the vote.
