Chatham’s Ben Church came home with a gold medal in the ‘AA’ division at the recent Niagara Bauer Hockey Challenge.

The tournament is the largest spring hockey tournament in the world, hosting over 250 teams from around the world.

Church, an 8-year-old defenseman, played in the tournament with the London Vipers Select team, a team comprised of elite 2005 birth year players from London and area.

A Grade 3 student at St. Vincent School, Church played his first year of competitive travel hockey this season for Chatham’s TekSavvy Novice Cobra’s where he helped his team win the Bluewater championship.

In the Niagara Bauer Hockey Challenge, Church and the London Vipers defeated the Meco Phoenix, who are a team from Hong Kong, and the Quebec Gouverneurs on their way to the sixth and final Championship game in three days, where they defeated Niagara’s Team Harrow Selects by a score of 6-2 to capture the title.
