New LKCS Sports Complex To Come Before Council
Councillor Joe Faas brought forward a motion, which will be voted on this week, for council to fund $134,500, or 25% of the $540,000 project, which is set to upgrade the Lambton-Kent Composite School sporting complex.
“It’s a true community project,” Councillor Joe Faas told the Sydenham Current. “Local organizations have agreed to partner with them. Sometimes it takes the municipality to be a lead.”
Along with the high school, the project aims to provide better facilities for Dreden Minor Baseball, Dresden Minor Soccer, Legion Track and Field, and community members, as well as local elementary schools.
The Lambton-Kent District School Board has already committed $50,000 to the project, as well as the cost of ongoing maintenance to the facility, which will include two irrigated soccer fields, a 400m track, baseball diamond, washrooms and storage facility, and a more than 1km extension to the existing Trillium Trail.
Local athletes and supporters are expected to be in attendance Monday when council gets underway at 6pm.
