OHL Draft This Weekend
With the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team advancing to the OHL Cup semi-finals, many players received long looks from scouts and jumped up the OHL draft rankings.
Cyclones goaltender Joseph Raaymakers, likely the most talked about the from the team will undoubtedly hear his name called this weekend, but may not be the first Chatham-Kent Cyclones player to hear their name called, due to his position.
The honour of being the first Chatham-Kent resident drafted could go to Wallaceburg’s Brady Pataki, or Chatham’s Levi Tetrault, or former Chatham resident Brock Philips, who played for the Waterloo Wolves this season.
Following Pataki, a long list of Cyclones forwards including Brendan Harrogate, Ross Krieger, Jarret Marks, Blair Derynck, and Nick Delyzer have also been included in many pre-draft predictions, as well as defensemen Kyle Fife and Ben Nicholls.
It also, isn’t outside of the realm of possibility, that anyone from Chatham-Kent’s roster could be selected this weekend, as they were considered one of the deepest teams in not only the Alliance, but also at the OHL Cup.
The Draft will begin online at 9am on Saturday, April 5.
Last season, former Chatham-Kent Cyclones forward, and Clachan resident Travis Konecny was the number one overall selection, while several other current and former Cyclones, including Brendan Johnston, Trent Fox, Drew Marlatt, James McEwan, and Mike Zottl were also selected.
