Through Daniel’s Lens: The Thrill Of A Lifetime (May 2007)
Ever since I was a boy I had a dream to see the Toronto Blue Jays live and in person. My Grandfather (may he rest in peace) also shared that dream but unfortunately died before he could realize it.
Back then Dave Stieb, Pat Borders, Kelly Gruber and George Bell graced the team’s roster and I managed to watch them win the World Series on TV in the early 1990’s. Fast forward to 2007 and I am given the chance to live that dream by tagging along with some of my friends from Community Living Chatham-Kent on May 31st 2007 for a bus ride to Toronto to see the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
The moment I stepped off the bus I felt like my grandfather was with me because I had a good feeling about the day ahead. I got a hot dog and a coke and took my seat. Famed children’s entertainers The Doodlebops threw out the ceremonial first pitch and the game was on, the Jays and the Rays were in a dead heat throughout the entire game but then a spectacular home run was performed by ‘Doc Halliday’ himself which sealed the Toronto Blue Jays victory in a 5-4 defeat over the Devil Rays.
It was the thrill of a lifetime for me and I knew Grandpa would be proud that his favourite team won the game that day.
