Brandon Montour Named USHL Player and Defenseman of the Year

Tilbury’s Brandon Montour, of the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks, has been named the United States Hockey League Player of the Year, and Defenseman of the Year.

Montour, who had 62 points in 60 games to lead all USHL defenseman in scoring, and finish 9th in league scoring, was selected in a recent poll by coaches and general managers.

“What Brandon did on both ends of the ice this season was phenomenal and a big part of the magical year for the Waterloo Black Hawks,” Skip Prince, USHL President and Commissioner said in a league news release. “He may have come into the USHL a little under the radar, but he made everyone take notice this season with his tremendous abilities and talent. Congratulations to him on this dual honor and for standing out in a league full of stars,” he continued in the release.

Montour will attend the NCAA’s University of Massachusetts next year where he’ll suit up for the UMass Minutemen.

Ranked 92nd overall for the upcoming NHL draft, Montour and his Waterloo Black Hawks are currently battling the Indiana Ice for the USHL Clark Cup title.
