Durston Scores Six In Red Devils Win
Wallaceburg Jordan Durston had a huge offensive outburst Sunday to help the Wallaceburg Red Devils close out a successful home opening weekend.
Durston scored six goals and added three assists for Wallaceburg in an 11-6 win over the Brampton Excelsiors, to close out their home opening weekend with two wins.
“Getting two wins this weekend is huge for us at home,” said Durston following the game. “Today we stuck to our game plan and executed it well, our goalie and defense played really solid and gave our offence plenty of chances to put the ball in the net and we did.”
Durston scored early to open the game, but Wallaceburg came out of the gate slow, trailing Brampton 3-2 after one period, with Corey Lucier scoring the other Wallaceburg goal. Lucier finished the game with three points.
In the second period, Wallaceburg exploded scoring five unanswered goals, including three from Durston. Mitch Gagnier and Bronson Bea had the other Wallaceburg goals in the period, with both coming on the powerplay. Gagnier would also add two assists in the win.
The third period continued in Wallaceburg’s favour with Durston opening the scoring, and finishing off his six goal night. Mitch VanDamme and Kyle Dawson also scored in the period to cap off the scoring.
“Great weekend for us, getting four points is huge,” said Red Devils head coach Jamie Knight. “Brampton is a good team and I think we played a solid, disciplined game for 3 periods. Eric Shepley played solid for us today and Noble played awesome yesterday. Our defense today was stellar. We gave up 3 goals early then allowed 3 over the next 45-50 minutes. Durston was a leader today and our young kids were effective for us. Great start for us but lots of work to do,” he continued.
Eric Shepley played his first complete game of the season in net, stopping 34 shots.
