EnviroClean Cougars of the Week: Peewee Defensive Unit
The Chatham-Kent Cougars Peewees played the London Forest City Thunderbirds over the weekend and beat them 24-0 at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex.
“This is usually a player award, but our coaches would like to give the award to the Chatham-Kent Cougars Peewee Defensive Unit,” says Cougars President and Peewee coach Sel Jordan. “They played outstanding and deserved the shutout with their strong play,” he added about the first EnviroClean Car & Dog Wash Cougar of the Week award for 2014.
Aiden Legroulx made a big play early in the game, running a Thunderbirds player down from behind, making a touchdown saving tackle on the 1 yard line. That play set the tone for the Cougars defense and that was the last big play given up for the rest of the game.
Russell Jacques lead the team 14 tackles on defense and special teams, while Tanner Hoorelbeck had 12 tackles, Darion Basic had 8 tackles, and Ethan Ciupka had 7 tackles and 1 interception.
The Chatham-Kent Cougars Peewee Defense forced 3 fumbles which were recovered by Hailey Penny, Tanner Hoorelbeck, and Dreydon Ronda.
Other standouts on defense was Dante Handsor, Tyler Shumanski, and Simpson Griffon.
The Chatham-Kent Cougars Peewees will head back to the field next Sunday, June 1 against the Vaughan Rebels at 1pm in Chatham.
