The UCC Lancers girls rugby team secured first place overall in the Kent standings for the 2014 season with another dominant win, this time a 46-0 decision over the Blenheim Bobcats.

UCC now sits with a 3-0 regular season record, as well as a win over the CKSS Golden Hawks, and a tournament victory at Western.

Friday, Brooke Grant scored two tries for the Lancers, while single tries were scored by Bailey Walker, Hannah Cartier, Anna Dzieciol, Shelby Heyink, Anna Dzieciol, Jessica Pickering, and Summer Eastcott.

Dzieciol, Walker, and Eastcott also kicked converts for the Lancers in the win.

“The girls are playing a more balanced type of offence, where both the forwards and the backs are contributing,” said head coach Scott Morkin.

“This year’s team is more experienced than the UCC teams of the past. All of our 1st 15, aside from one player, has at least one year of experience.”

“Our girls love playing defence. It seems we always have 15 girls on the field that want to make a tackle,” he continued.

The Lancers have been dominant this season, outscoring opponents 133-10 in regular season play.

UCC will play second place Wallaceburg Wednesday May 7 to close out their regular season play, and will also face the CKSS Golden Hawks May 9 in an exhibition.
