The women’s high school rugby semi-finals took place Tuesday night as the Wallaceburg Tartans hosted the Blenheim Bobcats.

Wallaceburg took control early, as they put up their first points within the first two minutes of play.

The Tartans continued to press on the Bobcats defence forcing Blenheim to play most of the first half in their own end.

Wallaceburg’s strong force gave them another five points increasing their lead to 10-0.

The Tartans continued to dominate the game as they rushed in two more tries before the end of the half. This gave the Tartans a 22-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Game play was delayed 15 minutes when a storm rolled over the field; however, the wet weather did not slow down the Tartans’ momentum as they rushed in their final try of the game.

Halley Jeffs, Val Ezewski each rushed in a try for the Tartans, as Chelsea Fleury carried in two tries. Emily Ross gave the Tartans the extra two points when she kicked the convert.

The Tartans took home a 27-0 win over the Bobcats.

Wallaceburg’s coach Brent Campbell says this game was a great way for his team to prepare for the finals.

“Our girls finally showed us the intensity that we have been waiting to see from them,” says Campbell. “The team work today was absolutely outstanding, so I am really excited to go up against UCC after this game.”

The Tartans will face off against UCC Wednesday, May 21st for the Kent Final.
