The UCC Lancers girls rugby team shutout the Wallaceburg Tartans 36-0 on the road Wednesday night to complete their 2014 Kent Rugby regular season with a perfect 4-0 record.

“I was really happy with our young girls,” said UCC head coach Scott Morkin. “Especially Libby Coe and Cameryn Rybansky who are in grade 9 and stepped up and played in a very physical game.”

Delaney Taylor scored two tries for the Lancers in the victory, while Summer Eastcott, Paige Ayers, Jessica Proctor and Rybansky scored singles.

For UCC, it was a statement game against a budding Wallaceburg squad who they’ll likely see again in the Kent Final.

“Wallaceburg played well,” said Morkin. “They hit hard and kept us disorganized on offence. Our defence held today against some very strong Wallaceburg runners. I am always happy with a shutout.”

Wallaceburg will host the Blenheim Bobcats Tuesday May 13th in the semi-final, in hopes of setting up a re-match of Wednesday’s game Wednesday May 21 for the Kent Final.
