Slated upgrades to the Lambton-Kent Composite School sporting complex got a big boost recently, as they were awarded $114,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

According to the Ontario Trillium Foundation website, the Dresden Community Development Association will receive,

“$114,000 over one year to improve the quality and safety of the sports fields in Dresden, including installation of an irrigation system, resurfacing of the soccer pitches and upgrading the baseball diamond.”

This funding will go toward the project, which will cost a total of $540,000 to add two irrigated soccer fields, a 400m track, baseball diamond, washrooms and storage facility, and a more than 1km extension to the existing Trillium Trail, to the existing athletic facilities at LKCS in Dresden, Ontario.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has pledged to contribute $134,500 to the project, and the Lambton-Kent District School Board will put in $50,000, along with the ongoing maintenance costs of the facility.

With the Trillium funding, the organizing group has now raised $298,500.

Along with the high school, the project aims to provide better facilities for Dreden Minor Baseball, Dresden Minor Soccer, Legion Track and Field, and community members, as well as local elementary schools.
