Who Is Chatham-Kent’s Top Ranked High School For Athletics?
This time, we thought we’d expand to look at which Chatham-Kent high school performed the best athletically in 2013-2014. Our system was simple, each school received 1-point for an individual Kent title, such as winning the girls singles badminton championship, and 2-points for a team title, such as winning the boys soccer championship.
No SWOSSAA or OFSAA results were included, as this comparison was only local school against local school.
We also created a ratio, which measured the number of points from our totals, in relation to the number of students at each school. This was done so that despite population, and despite A-AA-AAA-AAAA designations, which have size discrepancies within themselves, each school could be ranked by total titles per student capita.
Below are our two lists of Chatham-Kent’s top high schools. Chatham-Kent Secondary School captured the most titles across the board, earning 48 points. UCC was second with 30, and had the most at the Senior level. When our metric was implemented however, Chatham Christian came to the top, followed closely again by Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

I’ve always despised stats… Did your analysis also take into consideration that not all schools offer all programs? For example, ESPC does not have a football program and WDSS has a swim team? Not all schools have girls rugby?
Good point. That’s why I think the population adjusted number is more accurate. Smaller school means less programs. In a way however, if you want to go deeper, championships are one way to measure, but another measure could just be the offering of a sport. There are similarly sized schools with different program offerings as well, which would also make one, more than another, attractive athletically.
