Griffith Suits Up For the Boston Bruins
“Yeah, it’s pretty exciting, I haven’t played a preseason game yet so I’m excited to get the first one under my belt and I’m looking forward to it,” said Griffith in a Bruins news release about the opportunity to play in his first game.
Facing the Washington Capitals, Griffith played alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, skating at right wing on the Bruins’ number one line.
The former London Knights superstar, who had 20 goals and 30 assists last season in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, saw 16:38 in ice time in Boston’s 2-0 win over the Capitals, and registered 2 shots on goal. Griffith also had 2 takeaways and played 3:34 of powerplay time.
Griffith nearly netted his first NHL preseason goal, coming close on a second period chance according to the Bruins’ Twitter,
“Good pressure by Marchand-Bergeron-Griffith (& a rebound chance from Griffith) in the attacking zone & Bruins came away with a PP,” read the Tweet.
According to NESN, a major New England based sports network, the line of Griffith, Marchand, and Bergeron was “exceptional,” and were “dominating puck possession, as expected,” in the game.
“He’s shown good skills, he’s shown a lot of good things, so we’re excited to watch him play,” said Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien of Griffith prior to Wednesday’s game.
“He see the ice very well, he’s very quick, very smart with the puck so he sees plays, is able to make them,” said Marchand of his preseason linemate.
Watched the game online streaming, he looked pretty good out there…huge step !
