Kent Golfers Win First LKSSAA Title
Chatham-Kent Secondary School golfer Brooke MacKinnon won her second straight championship, after winning the Kent crown last year, and capturing the LKSSAA victory this year, shooting a round of 78.
The grade 10 MacKinnon, of Chatham, who went to OFSAA last year as a grade 9, won by 9 strokes over a group of golfers that included her CKSS teammate Nara Sonu and UCC golfer Julia Moretto.
On the boys side, Port Lambton’s Brendan Seys, who attends Ursuline College Chatham, took the first LKSSAA boys championship, shooting a 73. Seys however, wasn’t the outright winner, needing a one hoe playoff to edge out Sarnia St. Patrick’s golfer Graeme Brunet. Ridgetown’s Carson McKinlay was third, shooting a 74.
Seys’ UCC team, which also included Owen Dorrsers, Nick Stanley, and Mike Mawlam, were the overall boys team champions, while MacKinnon’s CKSS girls team, featuring Sonu, and Tess Scaman won the girls title.
Both MacKinnon and Seys are members at Maple City Country Club in Chatham.
All of the golfers above qualified for SWOSSAA, which is next Monday in Blenheim.
Other local golfers to qualify for SWOSSAA include Jamie Pamer (UCC), Erin Horner (UCC), Erin Kopinak (TDHS), Breanna Teasdale (ESPC), Quinn Cannella (CKSS), Jonesy Kay (CKSS), Jordan Dehaw (CKSS), Josh Horney (CKSS), Kaden Vanhelden (Chatham Christian), Mitchell O’Bradovic (Wallaceburg), Austen Geddes (ESPC), Devon Smith (JMSS).
