After beating Alvinston on home ice Wednesday, and picking up a road win Sunday against the Amherstburg Admirals, the Wallaceburg Lakers were hoping to continue their hot streak Tuesday against the first place Essex 73s.

Essex however, would cool off the red hot Wallaceburg Lakers, handing Wallaceburg a lopsided 7-0 loss. It was the second straight 7-0 win for Essex, as the 73s defeated Blenheim by an identical margin Sunday night.

Matt Zelko opened the scoring for Essex with the man advantage in the first period. The 73s continued to control the special teams game, as they then scored back-to-back shorthanded goals from Jordan Ryan and Tyler Scott.

Ryan would score twice more in the second period to complete his hat trick, and added a fourth goal in the third period.

Phil Janikowski capped off the scoring in the third period.

Essex dominated the ice, allowing only 14 shots against in the game, while firing 47 at Wallaceburg goaltenders Joel Sowinski and Scotty Gray.

Wallaceburg will try to regroup Wednesday, as they host they go from first to worst, hosting the last place Mooretown Flags at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena for a 7:30 puck drop.
