The first place Sarnia Legionnaires had a night to forget in Chatham Sunday evening, as the hometown Chatham Maroons crushed Sarnia 8-2.

Brennan Feasey and Michael Verboom would lead the way for the Chatham Maroons, with Feasey collecting a hat trick, and Verboom picking up a goal and four assists on the evening.

Top open the game, Brett Storr scored his first goal with the Chatham Jr B Maroons, snapping a shot top shelf from the point. Steven Beenackers would make it 2-0 for Chatham, scoring from the goalmouth after banging in his own rebound.

In the second period, Beenackers was the recipient of some good fortune, as he was credited with his second goal of the game, after a Sarnia defenseman poked the puck into his own net. Chatham kept pouring on the offense in the second frame with Jared Dennis and Michael Verboom scoring to extend Chatham’s lead to 5-0.

Kyler Keating would finally get the Legionnaires on the board just past the 9-minute mark of the second, with former Chatham-Kent Cyclones forward Cody Trowell assisting, but Brennan Feasey would score a pair to close out the period with Chatham up 7-1.

A minute and a half into the third period, Feasey would close out his hat trick, and end Chatham’s scoring on the evening. Although Sarnia would score again, the margin was too large, with the Maroons taking the 8-2 victory.

The Maroons peppered the Sarnia net with 65 shots, while Bo Bessette, who took the win in net for Chatham, faced only 28.

Chatham is back in action this Friday, October 31 for a Halloween match up on the road against the St. Thomas Stars. The Maroons will then host the Lambton Shores Predators at Memorial Arena, Sunday, November 7 for a 7:30pm puck drop.
