Blades Slice Lakers In Shootout

The Blenheim Blades needed a shootout to pick up a win Wednesday night, but got the job done, defeating the Wallaceburg Lakers 6-5.

Wallaceburg got out to a quick start in the game, getting goals from Matt Clark and Cory Lucier in the first period to build a 2-0 lead.

Blenheim stormed back to open the second period with Blair Derynck and Teddy McGeen scoring to knot the game at 2-2. Trevor Waller answered right back for Wallaceburg in what would continue a flurry of scoring in the second. McGeen, and Bryan Boersma then scored for Blenheim, before Matt Clark scored his second of the game for the Lakers.

Entering the third period tied 4-4, Brendan Ritchie put the Lakers ahead, but Blenheim wouldn’t be held down as Dylan Smith tied the game yet again.

After overtime solved nothing, Derek Muzzatti and Austin Bentley scored in the shootout to lift the Blades to the win.

Wallaceburg’s Matt Clark finished the game with 2 goals and 4 assists, while a trio of Blades players, Dylan Smith, Blair Derynck, and Teddy McGeen each had 3 points.
