Four Chatham-Kent Secondary School runners, including grade 9 Delainey Johnson competed this past weekend at the 2014 OFSAA Cross Country running championships in Waterloo, Ontario.

The CKSS Golden Hawks’ top finisher at the event, was midget girls runner Delainey Johnson. Johnson, competing against the top 259 runners in Ontario, crossed the finish line in 6th place overall, completing the 3km race in 11:42.2.

Johnson was the LKSSAA and SWOSSAA champion, and the top finisher from the region.

Fellow CKSS runner Quinn Cannella, a grade 11 student, also had a top ten finish, managing a 9th place result in the senior boys 7km race. Cannella ran a 23:11.8 time, cross the line only seconds ahead of a large tier of runners.

His teammate, Josh Kellier, a grade 12 student at CKSS, who is a national champion in steeplechase, finished only seconds behind Cannella in 17th, finishing with a time of 23:28.9.

Ally Oulds, CKSS’ final OFSAA competitor, bettered her results from the pre-OFSAA event earlier this season, finishing 55th in the senior girls race. A grade 10 Junior girls eligible runner, Oulds qualified for OFSAA by finishing 4th at SWOSSAA. Oulds finished the 5km race in 20:43.2.
