The CKSS Golden Hawks girls hockey team opened the 2015 high school sports schedule with a 6-1 win over the visiting Ridgetown Royals.

Yesterday, high school curling opened the 2015 schedule, but Tuesday marked the return of other sports including the LKSSAA girls hockey schedule.

CKSS got off to a quick start in the game, with Megan Hakr, Brooke Foster, Shayna Daly, and Ray Spotton all scoring first period goals to jump out to a 4-0 lead after one period.

After Corinna VandenBoorn scored to get Ridgetown on the board, the CKSS Golden Hawks responded with a goal from captain Olivia Henry.

Henry picked up her third point of the night, capping off a one goal, two assist performance in the third period, assisting on Ray Spotton’s second goal of the game.

Foster and Daly also had multi point nights with a goal and an assist each, as did Alexa Pugh, who picked up two assists in the 6-1 win.

The win improves CKSS to 3-3 in LKSSAA play, jumping the Golden Hawks into second in the South standings behind undefeated UCC, and 12-6 overall this season. Ridgetown falls to 2-3 in LKSSAA play.

The Golden Hawks are now off until after the exam break, with the exception of an exhibition game next week against Sarnia Northern, playing their next league game in February, while Ridgetown returns to play next week when they host the Lambton-Kent Cardinals and Wallaceburg Tartans in back to back nights.
