Chatham’s Derek Whitson will again represent Team Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team after being named to the 2014-2015 roster this week.

Whitson, who has represented Canada at several International events, including the Paralympics, will next suit up for Canada at the 2015 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, which is being hosted in Leduc, Alberta from February 1-7.

“As a new coaching staff, we could not be more impressed with the passion and drive the players showed at selection camp in Toronto in November, and last week at training camp in Calgary,” said head coach Ken Babey in a Hockey Canada news release. “We are very excited about these 17 players, I know they are excited to wear the red and white of Team Canada, and we are looking forward to getting to Leduc and getting into game action.”

Whitson is one of 13 returning players to the roster who won bronze at the Sochi Paralympics last year.

Whitson and Canada won gold at the last World Sledge Hockey Challenge in 2013.

Canada will open the 2015 event facing Korea Feburary 1.

The gold medal game will air on TSN February 7.
