Atom Outlaws Win Again
The Atom B Chatham Outlaws captured their third tournament title of the season, winning the London Devilettes tournament this weekend in London, Ontario.
The Outlaws started the tournament against the Bluewater Hawks and suffered their only defeat of the weekend 1-0. In game 2, they faced the Michigan Icebreakers and had a decisive 5-0 win. Erika Galbraith, Jade Unsworth, Riley Bentley, Lucie Maine, and Rachel Szymanski scored. Libby Barnard had the shutout.
Next up for the Chatham Outlaws were the Kingston Ice Wolves, who Chatham defeated 5-0. Ella Altiman and Jade Unsworth each scored twice, and Abby Balan scored once. Hayley Doucet was in net collecting the shutout.
In the quarterfinal, the Outlaws were tied 2-2 against the St Thomas Panthers after regulation time. Alex Maryschak and Jade Unsworth scored the regulation goals before Julia Trinca scored in overtime to give the Outlaws the victory and advance the team to the semi-final.
Facing a tough West Huron Wave squad in the semi-finals, Chatham again finished regulation tied, this time with a 1-1 score. Jade Unsworth scoring the only goal. In overtime, neither team could break the deadlock through two overtime periods. To decide who would head to the final, the game went to a shootout. Unsworth scored for the Outlaws, but the Wave managed to even it up. Riley Bentley then scored for the Outlaws to capture the win, and send her team to the final.
In the final, the Atom B Chatham Outlaws faced the Bluewater Hawks again, and squeaked out a 1-0 victory. Ashlynn Spence scored the only goal, and Libby Barnard got the shutout, lifting the Outlaws to gold.
