Flames Silver At Christian Provincials
The Chatham Christian Flames senior girls volleyball team captured silver medals for the second consecutive year at the All Ontario Christian Tournament in Belleville, Ontario this past weekend.
After losing 7 out of 8 players from last season’s silver medal winning team, Chatham Christian expected to fall down the standings this year, however the Flames again came home with silver.
In pool play, the CCHS Flames had a tough draw, with their pool featuring the top three teams in the tournament, including Toronto Christian and Woodland Christian. Chatham Christian finished 2nd in their pool of 6 teams, and entered the playoff round ranked 4th overall.
In pool play, the Flames swept Providence 25-15, 25-9, Unity 25-22, 25-15, and Guido 25-16, 25-21, split with Woodland 22-25, 25-14, and lost to Toronto 22-25, 21-25.
In the playoffs, Chatham Christian went on to defeat third ranked Hamilton 29-27, 25-21, Emmanuel 25-12, 25-15, London 25-14, 25-15, and Woodland 14-25, 25-12, 15-8, but again fell to Toronto 9-25, 19-25, in the championship match.
The Chatham Christian Flames now prepare for the LKSSAA playoffs. The team has a bye for the quarter-finals of the new LKSSAA “A” division after finishing on top of the 7 team league, and will host a semi-final match on Wednesday, February 18.
