The Dresden Kings fought back from a 5-1 deficit Tuesday night on the road to defeat the Lakeshore Canadiens 6-5 in overtime. The win pulls Dresden back into their best-of-seven Great Lakes Junior C playoff series, which they now trail 2-1.

In the opening frame, Dresden’s top line of Derek Daly, Ross Krieger, and Will Tetzlaff got the Kings on the board, with Daly scoring and his linemates assisting.

That however, was Dresden’s only goal in the opening two frames as the Lakeshore Canadiens would build a daunting 5-1 lead.

To kick off the third period and Dresden’s comeback, Jim McKinlay potted a powerplay marker from Krieger and Tetzlaff. Just over a minute later, rookie Derek Shaw scored to pull Dresden within two.

With the clock winding down, Dillon Liberty scored on the powerplay with just over two minutes remaining to pull the score to 5-4.

Then, with exactly one minute remaining, Daly struck again, with Tetzlaff picking up his third assist, to tie the game, and send it to overtime.

Midway through the first overtime, it was Jordan Durston who played hero for the Dresden Kings, scoring an unassisted overtime goal, lifting his team to their first postseason win.

Scott Tricker to the win in net for Dresden, taking the crease midway through the game after Daniel Tonietto faltered.

Dresden hosts Lakeshore tonight at 8pm for game 5 of their series.

In other Great Lakes playoff news, the Blenheim Blades fell again to the Alvinston Flyers and now sit tied 2-2 in their series.

Alvinston got out to a 3-0 lead, and the Blades were unable to complete the comeback. Nolan Vandenboorn and Bryan Boersma scored for Blenheim, who fell 3-2.

Finally, the Wheatley Sharks fell 7-3 to the Amherstburg Admirals. The game secured the 4-0 sweep for the Amhertsburg Admirals, who now advance to the second round of playoffs.
