CKSS Hosts Badminton Tournaments

The Senior and Junior Badminton seasons are underway, with tournaments running across Chatham-Kent. Over the last two nights, Chatham-Kent Secondary School hosted their Junior and Senior badminton tournaments.

Wednesday in the senior tournament, CKSS’ Christian Bechard fell to Henry Andkilde of Tecumseh Vista in the boys singles final.

In the boys doubles division Isaac Pinsonneault and Ben Bruhlman of Pain Court defeated CKSS’ Drew Medd and Jim Hong in the final.

In girls doubles, UCC’s Julia Moretto and Sydney Authier defeated Chatham-Kent Secondary School Junior players Sydney Sabourin and Jade Barko, who were playing up the age group. Sabourin and Barko would again capture second the following night at the Junior tournament falling to JMSS.

UCC’s Sheridan Rogers was second in girls singles, falling to Kestrel McNeill of Belle River in the final.

In mixed doubles, CKSS’ Lee Kucera and Julie Earle defeated UCC’s Laura Wiersma and Derek Vanhieuwenhuyze to capture the championship.

In the Junior tournament the following night, the host CKSS Golden Hawks had a strong showing with Jordan DeHaw winning boys singles, Brooke MacKinnon and Carson Lewis capturing the mixed doubles title, and Tess Scaman in girls singles, as well as the duo of Barko and Sabourin each taking second.

Local teams are back in action in Pain Court Friday and Saturday for Junior and Senior Tournaments respectively.
