After a week of voting, Chatham’s Brendan Harrogate has been named CKSN’s Chatham-Kent March Athlete of the Month for 2015.

Playing hockey for the LaSalle Vipers in the Junior GOJHL, Harrogate led his team in scoring through March.

Harrogate had 8 goals and 6 assists for 14 points in 11 games during March all in the playoffs, helping his LaSalle Vipers reach the GOJHL Western Conference final against the Leamington Flyers.

LaSalle eliminated Strathroy and Sarnia before falling to Leamington in the Western Conference. The Vipers however had the highest winning percentage of all GOJHL runners up, qualifying the team for the Sutherland Cup, which LaSalle opened in early April against the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Harrogate, who played last season with the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team was a 7th round selection of the Mississauga Steelheads in last season’s OHL Draft.

Harrogate took 22% of the vote.

Runner Up: Lee Kucera narrowly missed the honour of athlete of the month taking 20% of the overall vote to be named March’s runner-up. Kucera, was to the Kent basketball All-Star team in March. A CKSS student, Kucera also won, with his partner Julie Earle, back to back senior badminton championships in March, winning gold at the CKSS Badminton Tournament, and the Ecole Secondaire de Pain Court tournament in the mixed doubles division. In April, Kucera and Earle would go on to win the LKSSAA South title.
