Hawks Win LKSSAA Junior Badminton Title
After winning the Kent championship last year, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks won the first ever LKSSAA Junior Badminton team title Monday at St. Francois Xavier in Sarnia, Ontario.
Jordan DeHaw won the boys singles crown in a tightly contested all CKSS final, edging out grade 9 Grant Spence. Baoyi Zhang of Sarnia Northern was third.
In mixed doubles, Jacob Wanger and Grace Hiltz of UCC got their revenge from the LKSSAA South final, as they beat CKSS’ Carson Lewis and Brooke MacKinnon. ESPC’s Melissa Gaudrault and Cedric Duboi-Neron were third.
The boys doubles final featured an all Pain Court cast as Nick Paraskavopoulos and Ethan Provencal defeated schoolmates Cody Henderson and Joseph Zarebski in the final. North Lambton’s Trenton Straatman and Callum Rollings finished third.
In the girls doubles final, North Lambton’s Casey Gallant and Alexis McCreath-Frangakis edged ESPC’s Angela Rolph and Elise Pinsonneault in a 6 game thriller.
Finally, the girls singles title was won by LCCVI’s Marissa Mueller. She defeated UCC’s Emma Demers in the final, while CKSS’ Tess Scaman was third.
The top six in each division will advance to the SWOSSAA Championships in Leamington on Thursday.
