LKSSAA South Badminton Wraps Up

BadmintonThe LKSSAA South badminton championships took place Tuesday at the St. Clair College HealthPlex in Chatham. The top six finishers in each division would qualify for next week’s LKSSAA championships, which will also be hosted at the HealthPlex on April 14.

Christian Bechard of Chatham-Kent Secondary School captured the boys singles title, defeating Pain Court’s Macy Pinsonneault in the final.

UCC’s Seridan Rogers was the girls singles champion, defeating Pain Courts Danielle Lucier.

In the girls doubles division, Bridget Carleton and Ashley Herfst, a duo that qualified for OFSAA last season, took the South crown beating UCC’s Andrea Colasanti and Jadeyn Martin in the finals.

Isaac Pinsonneault and Ben Bruhlman of Pain Court (ESPC) defeated CKSS’ Drew Medd and Jim Hong in the final to win boys doubles.

Finally, Lee Kucera and Julie Earle of CKSS were the mixed doubles winners, beating Derek Vannieuwenhuyze and Laura Wiersma from UCC in the final.

The LKSSAA South Junior tournament will be held Thursday at the St. Clair Health Plex.
