Medal Filled Weekend For Local Women

It was a medal filled weekend for local women’s hockey players.

Chatham’s Hokey Langan and Destiny Pailey won an OWHA Provincial Gold medal this weekend as members of the London Devilettes Senior ‘AA’ team. Langan, a former captain of the NCAA’s Ohio State Buckeyes, and Pailey, who played for the University of Windsor Lancers last season, helped the Devilettes edge the St. Catherines Jets 4-3 in double overtime in the gold medal game for the win.

London went 5-0 on the weekend. Pailey and Langan both coached this season with the CKSS Golden Hawks and in the Chatham Outlaws organization.

Several of the athletes this duo coached while with the CKSS Golden Hawks won a provincial medal of their own on the weekend as members of the Kent Fillies Bantam ‘BB’ team.

After falling 1-0 to the eventual provincial champion from Ottawa, the Kent Fillies Bantam ‘BB’ team shutout Oakville 2-0 to win a bronze medal.

The Chatham Outlaws Peewee ‘A’ team also won a bronze medal at the OWHA provincials this weekend. Chatham defeated their league rivals Saugeen-Maitland 3-2 in the bronze medal game.

Finally, Ridgetown student and Moraviantown product Cassie Whiteye won a bronze medal with the London Devilettes in the Peewee ‘AA’ division.
