Studnicka Selected In First Round Of OHL Draft

Jack Studnicka was the first player selected Saturday in the 2015 OHL Draft with a Chatham-Kent connection.

Studnicka is the younger brother of former Chatham Maroons forward Sam Studnicka.

Jack Studnicka was selected 21st overall by the Oshawa Generals.

The 1999 born forward scored 29 goals and 56 assists for 85 points in 67 games this season with the Belle Tire U16 program out of Michigan.

A Tecumseh, Ontario product, Studnicka also played for the TPH Thunder Minor Midget program at this year’s OHL Cup.

Studnicka’s older brother Sam played for the Ottawa 67s this season scoring 18 goals and 34 assists in his third full OHL campaign. Sam Studnicka played for the Chatham Maroons in 2011-2012 as a 16-year-old rookie, when he collected 11 goals and 25 points in 49 games, while also earning a 14 game call up to the Windsor Spitfires, the team with which he started his OHL career.

David Levin was selected first overall by the Sudbury Wolves in Saturday’s OHL draft.

No Chatham-Kent Cyclones players were selected in the 15 round draft.
