Corey Lucier Continues Breakout Season In Red Devils Win
The Wallaceburg Red Devils picked up their first road win of the year Thursday night in London, snapping a three-game winless streak in a key divisional match-up.
The 16-5 win was led by Cory Lucier, who continued his early dominance for the Red Devils with one goal and five assists, to lead all scorers. Lucier has been riding a hot streak through the first 8 games of the season, with 16 goals and 25 assists for 41 points, good enough for sixth place in league scoring. Lucier’s 41 points on the year ties his point total from last season.
The Red Devils were hot out of the gate, scoring four unanswered goals within the first 4:06 of the first period. In total, the Red Devils netted nine in the first, going to the locker room with a 9-3 lead. Despite the onslaught of the first, the second period slowed to a crawl comparably with the Red and Blue Devils each grabbing one additional goal a piece. The pace picked up again in the third with six Wallaceburg tallies to one from Ron Elijah-Brown of London, who had 3 goals in the game.
Mike Myers, Brock Daugherty, Ryan Noel and Justin Scheunema each scored twice for Wallaceburg with the game winner coming from, Noble Jacobs. Additional Red Devil goals were supplied by Parker Gilhuly, Ryleigh Taylor, Keith Dawson, Evan Mathany, Kyle Dawson, Mitchell Lilley and Brendon Johnson.
The divisional win pushes Wallaceburg into second place in the Far West division of the OJBLL, one point ahead of the Blue Devils. London has already played 11 games, to Wallaceburg’s eight. Wallaceburg’s busy week continues as they play host to St. Catherine’s on Saturday and Orangeville on Sunday.
