Hawks Run Away With SWOSSAA
Delainey Johnson and Felx Marchard captured Individual SWOSSAA championships as Johnson was the meet’s top midget girl athlete, and Marchard won the senior boys title.
Johnson won the Midget Girls 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races.
Marchand won the 400m, 110m hurdles, and 400m hurdles.Marchand’s victory also helped the CKSS Golden Hawks win the Senior Boys overall team championship, building on the age division’s LKSSAA win last week.
Other local winners in the two day SWOSSAA track and field event include, in midget, UCC’s Sammi Vlasmen (high jump, 1.48m), Chatham Christian’s Carolyn Prins (triple jump, 10.91m), and JMSS’ Alec McGregor (triple jump, 11.99m).
In Junior, CKSS’ Ally Oulds won the 400m dash and 300m hurdles, while CKSS’ James Muharrem also won a pair of events capturing the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Pain Court’s Elise Pinsonneault (shot put, 11.47m) and JMSS’ Anthony Atkinson (shot put, 15.47m) also won Junior titles.
Finally, in senior competition, UCC’s Clare Thompson won both long jump (5.30m) and triple jump (11.26m). Other local senior winners include Rayne Kellier of CKSS taking high jump (1.57m), and Morgan Desjardins (shot put, 12.64m).
Qualifying athletes will now advance to the OFSAA West Regionals May 29 and 30.
