The first ever LKSSAA Track and Field Championship took place Tuesday and Wednesday at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

Cool weather didn’t slow down the competitors as dozens of local athletes captured titles.

In the midget girls division, CKSS’ Delainey Johnson captured three events, winning the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m events. Fellow CKSS runner Hannah St. Pierre took the sprint events, winning the 100m and 200m, while CKSS’ Jessica Jordan won the 400m race.

Chatham Christian athletes dominated the midget girls jumping events, as Carolyn Prins won the long jump and triple jump, and Adeleene Thompson won the high jump.

Kealy Taylor Noah of Ridgetown was the other Midget Girl to win an event, capturing the javelin crown.

In midget boys, Sarnia Northern won six events. John McGregor’s Alec McGregor was the only local athlete to win an event at the midget boys level, as he defeated the competition in the long jump and triple jump.

CKSS’ Ally Oulds led the way in the Junior girls events, winning the 200m, 400m, and 300m hurdles. Pain Court’s Elise Pinsonneault took two titles, winning shot put and discus, while Logan Kucera of CKSS won javelin.

At the Junior Boys level, CKSS’ James Muharrem and John McGregor’s Keyshaun Jordan each won three events. Muharrem was the champion in the 400m, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles. Jordan won the 100m, long jump, and triple jump events.

JMSS’ Anthony Atkinson (shot put), UCC’s Andrew Cartier (200m), and Cameron Default (800m) also won Junior boys events.

In the senior girls events, UCC’s Clare Thompson won the triple jump and long jump events. Pain Court’s Morgan Desjardins was first in shot put, while CKSS’ Rayne Kellier won high jump, and CKSS’ Miah St. Pierre won the 800m.

Finally, in senior boys, CKSS’ Quinn Cannella won the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m, not to be outdone by his teammate Felix Marchand who won the 400m, 110m hurdles, and 400m hurdles. CKSS’ Josh Kellier won the 2000m steeplechase, while CKSS’ Lee Kucera won javelin.

SWOSSAA track and field will take place May 20 in Chatham, and May 21 in Windsor.
