Local Sports Briefs: June 15

  • Reid Miller and Kyle Childerhose each picked up a hat trick as the Wallaceburg Thrashers scored their first Sr “B” Lacrosee win on the weekend with an 11-9 win over Owen Sound on Saturday at Memorial Arena in Wallaceburg.
  • Colin McDowell scored twice on Sunday for the Thrashers in a 20-6 loss to Oakville.
  • The Wallaceburg Red Devils got two goals each from Corey Lucier and Mitchell Lilly but lost an 8-7 thriller to the Elora Mohawks.
  • Wallaceburg’s Tanner Cole will be playing for Team Ontario Bantams in the National Lacrosse Championships in July. Cole’s name was on the final roster that was released this weekend.
  • Darion Bacik-Haddon scored five touchdowns for the Chatham-Kent Pee Wee Cougars as they hammered Burlington 51-14.
  • The Sarnia Sturgeons used a late interception to beat the Bantam Cougars 23-17.
    The Junior Cougars beat Sarnia 23-0.
  • Keyshaun Jordan scored the lone touchdown for Chatham-Kent as the London Thunderbirds beat the Varsity Cougars 46-7.
  • In rugby action the Stratford Black Swans beat the Kent Havoc in a thriller 31-29.
  • Rich Corrente pitched a complete game three hitter as his Burlington Bandits hammered Kitchener 7-1 in Interleague Baseball play.
  • Donnie Rankin Jr. and Tyler Borth each drove two winners yesterday at Dresden Raceway. About 600 people bet a total handle of $14, 874.
  • Two 15 year-old drivers stole the show at South Buxton Raceway on the weekend as Cale Johns won the Bombers Feature and Dylan Wolters won the Mini Mod feature.
  • Other winners at South Buxton included Steve Shaw in the Sports Stock Feature, Joel Dick in the Modified Feature and Dale Glassford winning his fourth straight Late Model Feature.
