Local Sports Briefs: June 30, 2015

  • CKXS-Morning-Sports-BriefsSeven divisions of Ontario Sire Stakes Trotting fillies will be part of the Canada Day celebration at Dresden Raceway. The July 1st card of racing kicks off at 1:30pm and will feature lots of giveaways, prizes and an 8ft Canada Day cake.
  • C-K basketball standout Bridget Carleton is in Toronto for the Canada Women’s Under 19 basketball tryouts. Carleton has worn the maple leaf on several occasions and is a favourite to represent Canada at the FIBA Under-19 World Championships in Chekov, Russia starting July 18th.
  • Chatham’s Mallory Johnson was a part of a gold-medal winning Team Canada at the World Street Hockey Championships in Switzerland this past weekend. This is Mallory’s third medal and second gold representing Canada on the international level.
  • Chatham’s Declan Waddick and Rorey Elson, both 10-years-old will represent Canada in the 2015 Warrior Elite European Cup Tournament in Prague, Czech Republic this summer.
  • Wallaceburg Bantam Griffin lacrosse standout Tanner Cole is playing for Team Ontario on the national level this summer. A raffle fundraiser has been set up for a “Bucket Of Fun”. Tickets are $5 and available at 99.1 CKXS, Dr. Jeffrey Fox Chiropractic (James Street, Wallaceburg) and the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena
