Local Sports Briefs: July 23, 2015
- Wallaceburg’s Emily Van Damme is 3-0 at the National Lacrosse Championships. Van Damme is playing for Team Ontario Jr Women’s squad as they beat Nova Scotia 9-2. Tanner Cole of Wallaceburg notched a goal and three assists for the Team Ontario Bantam Boys team. Team Ontario pasted Saskatchewan 16-0.
- Canada beat Serbia 58-52 at the FIBA Under-19 Women’s World Basketball Championships. Bridget Carelton of Chatham scored 24 points for Canada.
- Port Lambton’s Brendan Seys fired an eight over par 79 at the Ontario Junior Boys Golf Championships. Seys who golfs out of Maple City Country Club is in 21st place.
- The NRG Essentials Under-16 Sting beat Sarnia FC 1-0 last night. Bryer Genyn scored the lone goal while Tyler Warner picked up the shut out.
- 14-year-old Jake Hooker of Chatham wants to give back. The race car driving phenom has offered to donate half of his winnings from this weekend’s action at South Buxton to the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village. Hooker has won three features in a row in the Sport Stock class.
