Local Sports Briefs: July 8, 2015
- The Golf Gala for charity will be held tomorrow at Ambassador Golf and Country Club in Windsor in support of three local girls afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis. Steve Tooshkenig organized the event and says, “it’s a great day for a great cause and some great girls.” Money is being raised for Jersey and Braelyn Blackbird as well as Nancy St. Denis. Golf is at Ambassador and dinner is slated for Caesar’s Windsor at 7p.m. TJ Brodie will also be raising money for Cystic Fibrosis this Saturday as he is signing autographs at Canadian Tire in Chatham.
- Walpole Island’s Jordan Durston wrapped up another great season with the Six Nations Arrows of the Ontario Jr. A Lacrosse loop. Durston notched 64 points in 19 games for the Arrows this year helping them finish first in the league with a 17-3 record.
- The Wallaceburg Griffins Bantam Lacrosse team is making local history as they are the first Wallaceburg Box Lacrosse team to compete in the Ontario “A” qualifiers. The Qualifiers will be played for the next three weeks with the top six teams moving on to the Championship Tournament.
- Wallaceburg’s Alex DeKoning will be playing Jr B Hockey next season. Dekoning signed on with the Sarnia Legionaries after playing two seasons of “AAA” in Sarnia.
- Chatham’s MacKenzie Butzer fired a 76 in the first round of the Ontario Women’s Amateur Championships. Butzer is in 8th place. Laura Martin of Chatham shot an 82 which was good for a second place finish at the Jamieson Golf Tour’s Collegiate Division.
