Former Chatham Maroons owner, head coach and president Dave Torrie is Hollywood bound.

The Chatham-Kent native has accepted a position as a pro scout for the Los Angeles Kings, perennial Stanley Cup contenders in recent years.

Torrie will experience some new scenery and unfamiliar territory in L.A., leaving his former post with the Buffalo Sabres after four years as head of amateur scouting. The Sabres have been scuffling and suffering near the bottom of the league, looking for a leg-up on a re-build. The Kings – not so much. However, continued success for L.A. depends on scouting, drafting and building from within, relying upon scouts like Torrie.

The 49-year-old has ample experience as an amateur scout, keeping an eye on draft-eligible talent. The new shift sees Torrie tied to a two-year-deal to keep stock of professional talent. Although a similar task, it’s a new experience for the long-time GM of the Soo Greyhounds.

Torrie told local press his focus will be on 10 NHL teams as well as their AHL affiliates to keep tabs on possible free agents, trade acquisitions and more. The Kings employ three pro scouts in total.

Torrie continues to reside in Chatham despite his NHL tenure.
