September 21: Local Sports Briefs
– In Great Lakes Jr C play the Amherstberg Admirals handed the Essex 73’s their first loss of the season, 2-0. The Blenheim Blades beat Wheatley 9-0. Zack Horvath and Brian Boersma each had two goals for the Blades. The Wallaceburg Lakers travel to Wheatley tonight to play the Sharks.
– Gus Ford scored twice for the Chatham Maroons as they won their home opener by beating the Leamington Flyers 5-3.
– Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith suited up for the Boston Bruins in their 2-0 win over New Jersey but left the game in the second period. Griffith suffered a lower body injury and there is no time line on when he will return.
– The Western Mustangs beat the Queens Golden Gaels in CIAU Football action. Chatham’s Josh Woodman had three solo tackle for the Mustangs and added two assisted tackles while Wallaceburg’s Jonah Pataki carried the ball twice for 16 yards.
Dale Glassford was the winner of the Late Model Championship on Sunday night at South Buxton. Glassford dominated the season inning 14 of 16 Late Model Features. Jim Dale Jr. was the winner of the Modified Championship Feature.
