September 24: Local Sports Briefs
– The Lakeshore Canadiens scored three times in the second period and three times in the third as they beat the Wallaceburg Lakers 8-1 in great Lakes Jr C play last night. Jackson Gray scored the lone goal for the Lakers who have a full week off before they play the Alvinston Flyers next Wednesday night.
– Chatham’s TJ Brode will be out of the Calgary Flames line-up for three to six weeks after breaking a bone in his hand. Brodie broke the bone after blocking a shot for in an exhibition game on Monday.
– The Vancouver Canucks have sent Thamesville’s Dane Fox to the Utica Comets of the AHL. Fox spent last season with the Kalamazoo K-Wings of the ECHL where he scored 30 goals and 45 points.
– Chatham’s Jasson Missean will be between the pipes for the Missouri Maverick of the East Coast Hockey league this season. Missean signed on with the Mav’s on Monday where he will joining for teammate Wes Cunningham of Chatham. The 6’8” net minder played with Greenville of the ECHL and Hartford of the AHL last season while Cunningham played las season in France.
– Clachan’s Travis Konecny will be back with the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s this season after a great try out with the Philadelphia Flyers. Konecny was compared to Tampa’s Tyler Johnson by Vincent Lecavalier after scoring a goal and adding assist in preseason play for the Flyers.
– In Sr. Girls High School hoops action the North Lambton Eagles won a barn burner over the Lambton-Kent Cardinals 36-35. Morgan Grant scored 11 points for LK. The Junior Cardinals took some revenge as they beat the Eagles 27-17 thanks to seven points each from Alex Sewell and Riley Ellis.
