October 19: Local Sports Briefs

– The Dresden Kings won their second in a row last night as they beat the Blenheim Blades 6-2. Kyle Dawson scored twice for Dresden as Macks Holmes, Derrick Van Every, Kevin Ritzer and Issac McLean scored for the Kings as well. Kellen Kanicki and Nolan Vandenborn scored for Blenheim. The other game on the schedule saw Lakeshore and Amherstberg play to a 6-6 tie.
Chatham scored eight straight goals as they beat the Sarnia Legionaires 8-2 in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey play. Gus Ford scored three goals, Ross Krieger scored twice while Connor Koviak, Steven Beenackers and Ian Faubert scored for the Maroons as well.
In OHL play from last yesterday Owen Sound beat Windsor 4-3 in Overtime, Sarnia downed Mississauga 4-1, Matt Rabideau’s North Bay Battalion edged Niagara 4-3 in overtime, Travis Konecny has four assists as Ottawa beat Saginaw 6-4, while Brady Pataki’s Sudbury Wolves downed Trent Fox’s Hamilton Bulldogs 5-2.
The Saint Clair Saints Women’s Softball team took both ends of a doubleheader from Durham 12-4 and 10-7. Jessica Jamieson of Wallaceburg was 4-4 in the opener with four RBI’s and two runs scored while McKenzie Noah of Thamesville scored two runs.
Jonah Pataki of Wallaceburg scampered for 119 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead his Queen’s Golden Gales to a 33-32 win over the York Lions in CIS Football play. Josh Woodman of Chatham had one interception for Western as they beat Ottawa 69-19. Woodman has four picks on the year and is tied for second in the CIS.
Wallaceburg’s Matt Stirling was the winner of his weight class at the Musclemania Body Building Contest on the weekend in Montreal. Stirling earns Pro status with his victory.
