Seth Griffith’s recall to the NHL may have taken a little longer than many local hockey fans had anticipated.

But an injury to leading scorer David Krejci opened a familiar door that the 22-year-old Wallaceburg product found himself skating through last night, making his season debut with the Boston Bruins.

In a heated affair that saw a questionable hit by teammate Brad Marchand and over 100 penalty minutes, Seth added an assist on the eventual game-winning goal – one of Patrice Bergeron’s two power play goals in a 7-3 Beantown win over the Ottawa Senators.

Prior to Griffith’s late Tuesday afternoon recall, it was believed Seth would replace either Jimmy Hayes or Tyler Randell in the line-up. Randell was listed a healthy scratch and Hayes had a hat trick to lead Boston to victory.

Griffith has been a hot hand for the AHL’s Providence Bruins this season, registering 27 points in 24 games, leading the team. He’s also picked up five goals and 11 assists over his last nine AHL games. Last season, Seth played in 30 games with Boston, with six goals and four assists.

His next start is another career milestone – Friday’s Winter Classic pitting Boston against rival Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium. The game will be televised on NBC at 1 pm.
