Novice Outlaws Steal Gold

It took a dramatic overtime goal in the final, but the Chatham Outlaws Novice girls hockey team stole gold this past weekend at the Cambridge Roadrunners New Years Challenge tournament. The Outlaws finished the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.

Opening the tournament, Emily Harper recorded a shutout for the Outlaws in a 2-0 win over the Lambeth Lancers. Libby Pink opened the scoring with assists to Sadie Bear and Kalli Bechard, before Meghan Fife scored the insurance goal, with Jacqueline DesRosiers assisting.

The Outlaws record another shutout, this time a 7-0 decision over the Walkerton Capitals in the second game of the tournament. Libby Pink recorded a hat trick, while Meghan Fife had two goals and an assist in the win. DesRosiers and Tessa Vandehogen also scored, while Kallie Bechard had a pair of assists, and Isabella Raspburg and Catie Pink also picked up helpers. Harper again recorded the shutout in net.

In their third game, Chatham faced a tough Stratford Aces team, but came out victorious with a 6-2 decision. Meghan Fife potted a hat trick, while Isabella Raspburg scored a pair, and Libby Pink topped off the scoring. Averie Stephens, Pink, and DesRosiers recorded assists.

The win sent Chatham to the gold medal final, where they’d again face the Stratford Aces, this time with more of a challenge awaiting.

After failing to hit the scoreboard in the first frame, Libby Pink scored with an assist going to Sadie Bear. Isabella Raspburg followed, with Tessa Vandehogen assisting to give the Chatham Outlaws two heading into the third. In the third period, Libby Pink scored her second of the game, with Meghan Fife assisting. The game however would end knotted at 3-3 second it to overtime.

In the extra frame, Libby Pink would play the hero, capping off her hat trick and lifting the Novice Chatham Outlaws to gold with a 4-3 win.
