The Chatham Ballhawks U17 team won bronze this past weekend – Contributed Photo

On Saturday February 27th, the 17U Chatham Ballhawk girls travelled to Kitchener to play in the 18U Bugarski Cup, Trillium A. The Ballhawks were ranked 3rd in this 10 team tournament.

In pool play, the Ballhawks faced LVC 17U Ignite (london) and split, 22-25, 25-19. Against the Waterloo Tigers 18U Red Chatham won 25-21, 25-15, and facing the Kitchener/Waterloo Predators 17U Chatham split 25-20, 16-25.

The Ballhawks completed pool play with a third place finish. In the first round of play-offs, they faced Waterloo Tiger 18U Black, and won two straight, 25-15, 25-21.

Advancing to the quarter finals, the Ballhawks face the Georgetown Impact 17U, beating them two straight, 25-17, 25-20. Making it to the semi-finals, the Ballhawks had a rematch with LVC 17U Ignite. This was a well fought match, going three games. The Ballhawks played well, taking the third set into extra points, but came up short; 25-23, 17-25, 14-16.

The Chatham Ballhawks played the Stratford Stingers 18U in the Bronze match. Again this match went to three sets, with the Ballhawks coming out on top; 25-22, 26-24, 15-10.
