Chatham’s Ashley Jackson has committed to play CIS basketball for the Dalhousie University Tigers.

Jackson, a John McGregor Secondary School student, has spent the past seasons playing for the John McGregor boys and girls teams, and played for the London Ramblers JUEL team in the past where she was an All-Academic player.

“I’m super excited to be playing at Dalhousie next year,” said Jackson of her signing and commitment. “It was a difficult choice, picking a university, but at the end of the day I knew that Dal was the right fit for me. For a while I was contemplating not playing CIS basketball because I wanted to focus on my studies, considering I have the goal of going to med school and becoming a doctor. But after meeting with Coach Anna Stammberger, I knew that Dalhousie would allow me to balance my academics while also playing the sport I love.”

Jackson was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarship at Dalhousie, which is full tuition and fees for all four years, due to her academic success and extra-curricular activities.

“It feels great to know that I’ll be able to play basketball at the university level,” added Jackson. “This has been a goal of mine for many years now, and it’s nice to see that my hard work is finally paying off. I am so thankful for my family, coaches, teammates, and friends who have supported me along the way and helped mould me into the basketball player and person I am today.”

Dalhousie finished the 2015-2016 season with a 6-14 record.
